What is Doenjang Jjigae?

Doenjang jjigae is one of the most popular traditional soup dishes in Korean cuisine.

Doenjang jjigae has a rich and deep flavor based on doenjang (Korean miso). Doenjang, like soy sauce, is a seasoning made from fermented soybeans, and is similar to Japanese miso, but has a richer, spicier flavor.

There are many variations of ingredients for doenjang jjigae, but pork, beef, and various vegetables (cabbage, chives, zucchini, etc.) are generally used.

Doenjang jjigae is especially popular during the cold winter months due to its warm and rich flavor, but it is also a home-cooked dish that is enjoyed throughout the year.

In addition, because it uses doenjang, a fermented food, it is said to aid digestion and be good for health. Korean families often enjoy this soup on a daily basis, and it often appears during meals with family and friends.
